If you think that Jamaica is all about the sun-kissed beaches, tropical drinks, reggae concerts and finger-licking barbecue, wait, because there is more to this Caribbean island than just food and music. Located in the Caribbean Sea, Jamaica island nation located in the south and west of Haiti and Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean Commonwealth. Formerly home to the Arawak tribes and the coveted domain regime of Spain, Jamaica, formerly known as Santiago, conquered by England in 1655 and colonized and re-baptized as 'Jamaica' by British settlers.

However, Jamaica's ancient history by becoming the first Caribbean country won independence in 1962.
However, British influence is still felt in some aspects of Jamaican life. Political tradition and state law is largely modeled after the United Kingdom in which the executive power vests exclusively with the cabinet. Jamaica is a mixed economy where both state enterprises and private sector industries say the same. Tourism is Jamaica's largest industry with agriculture, mining, manufacturing and insurance sectors add to the economic spine. Jamaica's population consists of people of African descent, but a fairly large number of Americans, Germans, Scots, Irish and English are also located in this state.
